Apartment Fire with Subjects Trapped

 On September 18 at approxamately 0200, Christiana fire company and area companies were alerted to a multiple dwelling fire with people trapped in the 500 block of Bedford La in the Appleby Apts., Wilton. Engine 12 and Ladder 12 arrived to find an apartment on fire on the second floor. Searches were started and an attack line was stretched. Command received reports that people had jumped from the second floor. Ladder 18 and Engine 6-6 started searches on the 3rd floor also stretching an a attack line to the floor above the fire. Engine 6-4 stretched a backup line to the second floor. Deputy Chief Anderson, while searching a 3rd floor apartment found a unconscious male. Deputy Chief Anderson removed the unconscious patient to the first floor. Ambulance 9 and Medic 2 treated the patient who was transported to Christiana Trauma center. Searches were completed on the 2nd floor and 3rd floor without finding more victims. Engine 22 and 16 operated with Ladder 17 and Rescue 23 to complete all the searches and went down both floors that had fire. One additional patient was transported with chest pains by Ambulance 15 and Medic 6. The fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal. Units operated for two hours.
